Description
The southern catalpa, also known as an Indian bean tree or cigar tree due to the bean like pods that follow the flowers, is a striking tree due to the size of leaf. Most leaves being around 12 inches long and 6 inches wide in a striking yellow colour in the autumn months. The clusters of flowers are also beautiful pieces of nature, with around 15-20 flowers in a single cluster all 2 inches long which blossom in a perfect white colour.
Due to the vast surface area of the leaves, this tree is best grown with little wind or a strong wind break as it is may shed its leaves. Other than high winds, this tree will grow in most damp soil types.
