Description
The damson tree is thought to be the ancestor of the common plum we eat today. Damson trees can grow to height of 5m tall in mild climates in most soil types as long as it is moist and well drained. The stoned fruit produced from this tree has a bruised lilac colour skin covering fleshy amber coloured fruit within. They taste slightly sour and can be eaten raw but are mainly used in tarts and jams.
This tree is also very low maintenance as it does not need pruning regularly unless the jagged-edged dark green leaves are damaged due to disease or pests such as aphids and caterpillars,
