This tree can make a really good hedge or a superb tree. The leaves are amazing, ridged and in full growth and are deep green. As a hedge when in full leaf in my opinion it can be easily confused with Beech. The wood timber is very hard, butchers chopping blocks are made from its timber. It is also excellent for making charcoal, and burning in log burners. It prefers richer soil such as heavy clay and will grow into a large tree given the space and time.
